🧮 BODMAS Made Easy! 🧮
Have you ever looked at a maths question and wondered:
🤔 Do I add first?
🤔 Do I multiply first?
🤔 Which part comes next?
That's where BODMAS helps!
BODMAS is a simple rule that tells us the correct order to solve maths calculations.
If we do the steps in the wrong order, we can get the wrong answer.
Think of BODMAS as a treasure map that shows us which path to follow.
🧠 What Does BODMAS Mean?
B = Brackets
Always solve anything inside brackets first.
Example:
(4 + 3) = 7
O = Orders
Orders means powers or indices.
Example:
3² = 3 × 3 = 9
D = Division
Complete any division calculations next.
Example:
12 ÷ 3 = 4
M = Multiplication
Then complete any multiplication.
Example:
4 × 5 = 20
A = Addition
After that, complete any addition.
Example:
10 + 7 = 17
S = Subtraction
Finally, complete any subtraction.
Example:
17 − 5 = 12
⭐ Remember!
When multiplication and division are together, work from left to right.
When addition and subtraction are together, work from left to right.
📝 Let's Try an Example Together
Question
10 + (2 × 3)² − 8 ÷ 4
Step 1: Brackets
(2 × 3) = 6
Now we have:
10 + 6² − 8 ÷ 4
Step 2: Orders
6² = 36
Now we have:
10 + 36 − 8 ÷ 4
Step 3: Division
8 ÷ 4 = 2
Now we have:
10 + 36 − 2
Step 4: Addition
10 + 36 = 46
Now we have:
46 − 2
Step 5: Subtraction
46 − 2 = 44
